MSPs use these boards to understand their specialized workflows such as software development.
Before you create boards for specialized workflows, learn how to set up Kanban boards in TopLeft.
MSPs have special workflows that can be tracked in more detail than generic stages such as New, In Progress, and Complete. Examples include software development, client onboarding, procurement, or QBRs.
Every MSP will have their own process for these workflows. Some example stages could be:
Workflow | Stages |
Software development | Requirements, Development, UAT, Release, Done |
Client onboarding | Take inventory, AD migration, Workstation tools install |
Procurement | Received, Submitted, Waiting shipment, Arrived |
To use specialized boards, make a status in your PSA for each stage. Then set the status of the ticket or project tracking the work to the appropriate status.
In TopLeft, set up a Kanban board with one column for each status, going left to right as the work progresses from the first stage to completion.

Reference Recommendations for Specialized Boards
It's difficult to give recommendations for specialized boards because they are unique to each MSP. However the following two boards are a good start for visualizing this type of work.
Board | Type | Name | Swimlane | Typical Filters | Typical Columns |
