Use TopLeft in a ConnectWise Tab

Embedding TopLeft in ConnectWise as a tab

TopLeft boards can be embedded in ConnectWise Manage as a tab so managers and technicians don't need to leave ConnectWise to use it. They also don't need to log into TopLeft, as TopLeft uses authentication data provided by ConnectWise.

Adding an Embedded TopLeft Tab to ConnectWise

To add an embedded TopLeft tab in ConnectWise, follow these steps. This requires administrator privileges.

1. Navigate to the TopLeft Kanban board that you want to add to ConnectWise.
2. Click the Edit button beside the board name. 
   
3. Click the Actions button, then click Embed in ConnectWise.
4. In the dialog, select the ConnectWise screen where the tab should appear.
   
5. Click Submit.

If you get a message that you do not have security permission to perform this action, you'll need to update the security role settings for the TopLeft API member.

These steps register the TopLeft Kanban board as an available tab in ConnectWise but it doesn't make it visible for all members. Follow the instructions in the next section to display the TopLeft tab in ConnectWise. Each ConnectWise member who wants to use the tab needs to do this.

Viewing an Embedded TopLeft Tab in a ConnectWise Screen

Before viewing TopLeft in ConnectWise, you may need to add the tab from the tab configuration menu.

1. Navigate to the screen in ConnectWise where the tab is registered (i.e. Today, Project, Company, etc.)
2. Click the gear icon to open the tab configuration menu.
   
3. Select the TopLeft tab and click the right arrow to move to the "Displayed" column. If you don't see the tab listed, ConnectWise may be showing you old cached data. Log out, clear your browser or client cache, then log in and try again.
   
4. Click "Save". The TopLeft board appears as a tab.
5. Click the tab to open your TopLeft application in ConnectWise.

Removing an Embedded TopLeft Tab from ConnectWise

To remove an embedded TopLeft tab from ConnectWise Manage follow the steps below. You will need access to the ConnectWise Setup Tables.

1. Navigate to Setup Tables. In the main menu click System > Setup Tables.
   
2. In the Table search box enter, "Manage Hosted API" and click search.
   
3. Select "Manage Hosted API" from the list.
4. Click the TopLeft tab you want to remove.
5. In the tab edit page, click the delete iconand click OK to confirm.

Adding an Embedded TopLeft Tab to ConnectWise using the Setup Tables

In addition to adding a TopLeft tab via the method in TopLeft, you can add a tab manually in ConnectWise. Follow these steps:

1. Navigate to Setup Tables. In the main menu click System > Setup Tables.
   
2. In the Table search box enter, "Manage Hosted API" and click search.
   
3. Select "Manage Hosted API" from the list.
4. Click on the "+" button to create a new tab.
   
5. In Description, enter "TopLeft" or some other name- it's up to you.
6. In Screen, choose where the TopLeft tab will be visible. The most easily-accessible screen is the Today Screen, but you can choose any of the options listed.
7. Set Origin to the URL of your TopLeft application. For example: "https://example.topleft.team/".
8. Set URL to the special URL of the board you want to appear in the tab. To get this URL, from the TopLeft application edit the board and click the "Embed in ConnectWise" button. A dialog showing the URL opens- copy the URL and paste it into ConnectWise.
9. Save the tab by clicking the disk icon .
